American Girl: What I Wore

Happy Fourth of July, everyone!

This is one of my favorite songs and no, Tom Petty doesn't even have some Queen connection that you're aren't aware of - I just really love this song! I always thought it was a great "road trip" song and I really love listening to it in the car.

Well, I won't be in a car tomorrow, but I'll be on a plane. I guess I'll find out if this song is equally uplifting when I'm precariously dangling tens of thousands of feet up in the air (can you tell I'm not really the greatest flier?) I've filled my iPhone with my new Sherlock Holmes audio book, every Queen/RT song I own, and Season 1, Disc 2 of Arrested Development. I also picked up three books at Barnes and Noble this afternoon. I should have no problem making it through this plane ride.

I hope.

As I was packing yesterday afternoon, I stumbled upon something rather surprising in my closet: red! I think I've mentioned that I don't own a single red article of clothing. I don't even own anything that has red in it! Pink. Absolutely. Orange. Of course. Maroon. Indeed. Red. Um...well...actually, no.

But I was wrong! I have something with red in it. And not only that, it is red, white and blue! With that I present my Fourth of July outfit!
Blouse, Ann Taylor Loft, size Large
Pants, Banana Republic, size 12
Sandals, Merona for Target
Earrings, Honora for QVC
Bracelets, Stretch pearls

And since I'm doing a What I Wore on the weekend, that means Husband is home to take the pictures for me! Hurray! (Although can I just say that I don't know how so many of you bloggers convince your husbands/significant others to take photos of you every day. Husband acts like I'm asking him to chop off his own foot when I suggest he take five minutes to snap some photos of me!)

Husband laughed at me when I posed for this one. I can't help if I was feeling particularly patriotic in my red, white and blue ensemble!

If you look closely, you can see Izzy peeking through the glass of the front door.

This is how I'm going to pose when I'm famous - looking over my shoulder from my left side. Absolutely smashing!

The blouse is a bit big. I'm not sure what possessed me to buy a Large, especially in this baggy bloused style. Every time I wear this top, I have to tie the halter really tight to keep the back from slipping down too low and I end up with a headache. A Medium would definitely have been ideal. But it's red and I don't care, I'll suck it up and wear it today!

No fireworks for me, but Husband bought chicken drumsticks to cook on the grill. Yum!

Have a great day everyone!

  1. You look adorable! I love your patriotic outfit.

My husband usually takes my pics (or my mom, when she gets to our house to watch our daughter) and I typically get two poses and that's it.

They don't quite get fashion blogging so I feel a little ridiculous doing any more shots than that. I need to get a tripod so I can take some self-portraits and do more fun poses!

  2. My fiance complains about taking my pictures every single day! The majority of my pictures are inside, so all he has to do is get up off the couch, take about 5 pictures, and then sit back down. That's what, 2 minutes at most? Then the ones I shot outside took about 10 minutes at most. Sometimes I have to bribe him with going where he wants to go to eat or he can watch the show he wants to watch. A few days ago, he said he's going to start charging me a "photography fee"....yea right!

  5. Melissa - Thanks! I've thought about a tripod, but we don't even have a real digital camera (ours is a digital videocamera with a photo feature). It's Husband's and he doesn't like me to play with it so it's either my iPhone or sweet talking him into coming outside with me!

Sara - I'm glad it's not just Husband! All he has to do is follow me around for a few minutes while I pose. Ugh! Part of me likes having full body shots that are outside and part of me thinks it's just not worth it.

Suz - Thanks! I'm excited! I'm glad you finally watched Arrested Development - it's great, right? Did the package arrive? I'm excited to hear if the skirt fit!

Ashley - Thanks! The sitting one is my favorite too - Husband didn't want to take it because he says it was too dark. Shows what he knows! :P

  7. You look amazing! Very patriotic! The pictures are so fun. I enjoyed all your different poses. My husband doesn't complain to badly when I ask him to take pics for me, but I never like the pictures he takes. I always think I look bigger in the ones he takes as opposed to the ones I take. Maybe it's the angle of the pictures or something. I love me some Tom Petty. That song is the best.

  9. Contessa - Thanks! :) And I LOVE beer can chicken - we just had some that was absolutely amazing a few weeks ago. I need to track down the recipe he used!

Lorraine - Thanks! I was so glad to find some red in my closet. I know what you mean about the camera angle - I always look skinnier when I can angle my mirror and iPhone accordingly! LOL

Jessica - Thanks! Happy Fourth of July to you too! :)

  14. Happy 4th Kathleen! I like your outfit and your outdoor shots. We celebrate Canada Day on July 1st but I've never worn a red & white outfit for fear of looking like a candycane! ;)

BTW, thanks for mentioning that your DH doesn't jump at the chance to play photographer - neither does mine! We can all commiserate together!

    Cheers & happy vacation~Dajana
